Hormonal Imbalance and Homeopathy

Hormonal imbalance in relation to: PCOD, PCOS, Infertility, Facial Hair, Ovarian cysts. (By Dr. Anish Vaknalli)
Case reports show the effects of Homeopathic medicines on DHEA and testosterone in a female with PCOS. Most tests were conducted in the USA, original copies of which are with the patient.

Kindly refer to the levels of DHEA and testosterone. Both these were significantly reduced with homeopathic medicines. The homeopathic remedy indicated in your case may vary depending on the signs and symptoms you present with. Kindly abstain from self-treatment.

PCOS and hormonal imbalance:
Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) is a hormonal imbalance that can cause irregular periods, extra hair on the face and other parts of the body, acne, weight gain and skin pigmentation.

Diagnosis of PCOS can be confirmed by:

Vaginal ultrasound: which may show enlarged ovaries and multiple cysts arranged in the form of a necklace along the periphery of the ovary.

Elevated hormones: Typically levels of DHEA, testosterone and LH are elevated. Women experience anovulation (absence of ovulation) and irregular periods due to these hormonal imbalances.

Elevated Insulin levels: due to insulin resistance.

Understanding hormones which regulate ovulation:

Your normal menstrual cycle starts when the brain sends LH and FSH to the ovaries. A surge of LH levels tells the ovaries to ovulate, or release an egg. With PCOS, LH levels are frequently high when the menstrual cycle starts without any LH surge, preventing ovulation.

Dehydroepiandrosterone is a steroid hormone that's produced by the adrenal glands (glands located on top of the kidneys). The body converts DHEA to male and female sex hormones, such as testosterone and estrogen. Elevated levels of DHEA result in increased levels of testosterone. Elevated testosterone causes acne and excessive hair growth, which is also known as hirsuitism. Women diagnosed with PCOS may continue to have hirsuitism even after their testosterone levels are normalized due to increased sensitivity of hair follicles to this hormone.

Conventional treatment for PCOS and Hormonal Imbalance:

Birth control pill
The most common form of treatment helps in regularizing your periods with the aid of artificial hormones needed for menstruation and ovulation.

Is used when insulin levels are high, typically seen in PCOS due to insulin-resistance.

Laparoscopic ovarian drilling
An invasive procedure in which ovaries with multiple cysts or large cysts are drilled. This aids in the resolution of the cyst and aids ovulation.

Homeopathic scope

Homeopathy can be used in conjunction with the medicines you are already taking or can sometimes be your only choice of treatment for PCOS and hormonal imbalances.

Homeopathic medicines can help in the following manner:
  • Resolve ovarian cysts, aid ovulation and prevent relapses
  • Normalize hormonal imbalance in a vast majority of cases
  • Reduce tendency to excessive hair growth and weight gain
  • Regularize your periods without the aid of birth control pills

Cataract Homeopathic treatment

Cataract: Scope of Homeopathy

A Cataract is an eye disease in which the natural crystalline lens of the eye becomes opaque or cloudy obstructing the passage of light.

Cataract progresses slowly causing vision loss and even blindness, if untreated.

Loss of clear vision, Colors and shadows become less vivid, Nocturnal glare as if seeing through a veil and Halo around street lights are indicative of cataract.

Some Causes
  • Age related opacity of the lens
  • Trauma and injury to the eye
  • Long-term exposure to UV light
  • Exposure to Radiation (Infrared, Microwave)
  • Genetic factors can predispose
  • Secondary to Diabetes and Hypertension
  • Drugs such as corticosteroids
Studies have shown that Ultraviolet-protective sunglasses may help in slowing down or delaying the onset of cataract.

Surgical treatment
On maturation of the cataract, surgical removal of the cloudy lens by making an incision into its capsule is the preferred choice. The removed natural lens is then replaced with a synthetic lens which restores the lens’s transparency and clarity of vision.

Homeopathic Scope
Homeopathy is usually the first alternative available to a person when faced with the decision of undergoing the knife. Said that, most aren’t aware that Homeopathy can only be of use in the initial stages of cataract (early cataract), and is not recommended in its later stages when the cataract has matured.

Though we have been offering a course or homeopathic medicines to individuals in the initial stages of cataract, we have no conclusive studies or means of evaluating whether the Homeopathic medicines have truly delayed the maturity of the cataract. In addition, since cataracts develop very slowly patients may fail to give us regular follow-ups making it further difficult to evaluate the true outcome of the treatment.

Conclusion – Based on the cases treated over the past 25 years…

We feel there is no harm in trying a short course of homeopathy in stages of early cataract as there are some very well indicated remedies which could help in slowing down its progression, evident from the cases treated at our centres.

Matured cataracts cannot be treated with Homeopathy and it is better to have it surgically removed.

Lipoma treatment and Homeopathy

Doctor Vaknalli: Kindly explain the role of Homeopathy in the treatment of Lipomas...

What are they?
A Lipoma is a benign (non-cancerous) tumor composed of fatty tissue, usually affecting adults between 40 to 60 years of age. They are generally painless and soft to touch. Their size varies from under 1 cm to sizes greater than 8 cm.

Some types

Superficial Subcutaneous lipoma: The most common type of lipoma rests just below the surface of the skin occurring commonly on the forearm, trunk and thighs. Since lipomas are made up of fat, they may occur anywhere on the body where fat is found.

Neural fibrolipoma: Here fatty infiltration of the nerve leads to its compression causing neurological symptoms.

Angiolipoma: These are painful, subcutaneous lipomas containing an unusually large number of vascular channels.

Intramuscular Lipomas: They are commonly found deep within the large muscles of the extremities.

Spindle cell lipomas: These are slow-growing subcutaneous lipomas usually found on the back, neck, and shoulders of older men.

The cause of lipomas is not known, but genetic factors may play a role.

Homeopathic Scope
Homeopathic medicines cannot completely dissolve large lipomas and can only partially soften them and help in marginally reducing their size. However, cases seen at our centres have been treated primarily with the intention of:

Reducing size: Small lipomas (less than1cm) can be significantly reduced in size with homeopathy, especially when treated early. Larger lipomas have also shown to respond to the medicines, however not all cases respond favorably and is not recommended in such cases.

Preventing formation of new lipomas: Individuals prone to multiple lipomas and in cases where lipomas tend to gradually increase in size should surely opt for a course of homeopathy. Most cases treated at HomeoConsult RD have responded favorably to the treatment prescribed.

Relieving pain and discomfort associated with some forms of lipoma: Occasionally lipomas can cause neurological discomfort and pain which can be relieved homeopathically.

Surgery should be considered as the last resort and is usually for cosmetic reasons. However, do note that lipomas can reoccur at the site of excision and may continue to develop at new locations. It is therefore advisable to first try homeopathy if the condition is within its scope, as homeopathy is completely non-invasive and free of any side effects.

If you or someone you know suffers from lipomas do not ignore it. Earlier your treat it, better are the results. You may also visit us in person or opt for our online treatment as mentioned below.

Infertility Homeopathic Treatment, Homeopathy Medicine, Mumbai

Homeopathy: Complementing your Infertility treatment...

It is estimated that approximately 15-20% of couples face some form of difficulty in conceiving. Medically, if you are unable to conceive after trying correctly for a year, you should consider getting yourselves evaluated for the many causes of infertility.

For those willing to try alternative methods and therapies, I would like to say that homeopathy is definitely something that should be initiated as our centres have successfully helped couples over the past 25 years.

I would also like to say that before you start homeopathy do consider ruling out the common causes of infertility as more than often simple tests and corrective measures can further improve the chances of conception. A homeopath well versed in treating such cases or your Gynecologist can recommend these tests.

The success of homeopathy depends on the causes of infertility and the outcome is as mentioned below:

Female Conditions: Most common causes.

PCOD or Polycystic Ovarian Disease

What is it?

PCOD is a condition where multiple, small cysts develop in the ovaries causing faulty ovulation, irregular menses, weight-gain, acne and hirsuitism (abnormal hair growth). A person with PCOD is usually started on fertility drugs which may or may not help in conception.

Our Homeopathic Experience:

PCOD can be wonderfully dealt with using homeopathic medicines. The severity and periodicity of cyst formation can be reversed significantly assisting ovulation. The medicines also help in stopping the excessive hair growth and help in better weight management, evident from the numerous cases treated here. If you suffer from PCOD please do consider homeopathy either as your primary line of treatment or in conjunction with the medicines you are already taking.

What is it?

In this condition the internal lining of the uterus which sheds during the menstrual cycle grows in places other than the uterus causing blockage of the tubes, improper ovulation, miscarriages, painful and heavy periods. Laparoscopic surgery is usually needed to unblock tubes and deposits of the tissue impeding ovulation and conception.

Our Homeopathic Experience:

Homeopathy can be useful here too and administration of a carefully selected constitutional, homeopathic remedy can help in preventing or slowing down this process. Sometimes, the uterine lining can get deposited in the ovaries causing cysts, cases of which have been successfully treated at our centres.

Hormonal causes leading to ovulation problems

What is it?

Ovulation is controlled by numerous hormones and any abnormality in their levels can lead to ovulation disturbances as well as absent or irregular periods and heavy or excessively light periods. Ovulation drugs followed by IVF are the first choice of treatment here. However, even after using these drugs and promoting ovulation, less than half actually go on to conceive successfully.

Our Homeopathic Experience:

There are numerous factors besides ovulation which need to be corrected and more than often doctors fail to ascertain the precise cause of conception failures even after ovulation is initiated. Homeopathy can be used in conjunction with the usual therapies to improve the chances or conception.

Blocked Fallopian tubes

What is it?

Eggs from the ovary pass through the fallopian tubes into the uterus. A blocked or damaged tube needs to be opened surgically. However, surgery leads to scar formation and drastically lowers the chances of conception. Also, those with blocked tubes may also suffer from infection and inflammation leading to this blockage.

Our Homeopathic Experience:

Homeopathy cannot be used to reopen previously blocked or scarred tubes and needs to be done surgically. However, homeopathy can definitely help in minimizing scar formation after surgery as well as control the infection. If you have normal ovulation and a patent tube on one side you may start homeopathy to improve your chances of conception as well.

Male conditions: Most common causes

Sperm problems

Low sperm counts, abnormal shapes and poor motility usually cause the male side of fertility problems. Fertility drugs and artificial insemination can be opted for. The rate of success of these conventional measures is usually below 25%.

Homeopathic scope:

You should definitely opt for homeopathy for problems associated with the quality of sperms as there are some very effective remedies which positively alter the quantity, quality and motility of the sperms and have been documented at our centres.

Sperm Allergy

There is a possibility that both men and women could develop antibodies which could damage the sperm. Women may experience burning and stinging pains (similar to an allergic skin reaction) after intercourse in the vaginal vault. The symptoms may be confused with candidiasis or herpes.

Homeopathic scope:

Homeopathy works wonders in all forms of allergy and semen allergy is definitely no exception. Anyone suspecting sperm allergy should immediately opt for homeopathy as it helps in stabilizing the immune system making one resistant to the allergen, which in this case is the semen itself.

Male blocked tubes

Varicoceles or varicose veins in the testicles and any obstruction in the tubes which transport the sperms can lead to male infertility. Surgery is the first choice here and should be opted for.

Homeopathic scope:

Homeopathy can be used post surgery as it can help in the healing process and in minimizing scar formation.

Unexplained fertility issues

Approximately 20- 25 % of couples who undergo all the requisite medical tests to rule out infertility fall in this category. There is no obvious cause detected and are prescribed ovulation drugs and recommended timed conception. The problem is that conception is not limited to the few causes as discussed above and involves numerous biochemical events which need to happen flawlessly for a perfect pregnancy. Also, as age advances (above 35 years) the biochemical mechanism governing ovulation and fertilization can get restricted and couples may find it much more difficult conceiving after this age.

Homeopathic scope:

More than 60% of infertility cases seen at our centres fall in the above category as most are left with no choice but to pray, try and opt for some alternative measure such as homeopathy. Homeopathy is strongly recommended in all such cases as the medicines work constitutionally and holistically and improve the reproductive functions and general wellbeing in both males and females.

Do take advantage of our experience in dealing with Infertility using Homeopathy, as you never know, you may end up conceiving even after years of trying and frustration, just as so many patients have in the past 25 years.
